You might also like to watch this video from Home for Good that we will be looking at today in our Zoom service.

Here are our discussion questions for today:

- What traits do we generally attribute to Mothers?

- Were there any stories in the video that were new to you or resonated with you? Why?

- What role do we have as church to mother to each other/our community?

Message - Jessica Bullett

Todays reading from 2 Timothy introduces us to Lois and Eunice, Timothy’s Mother and Grandmother. Paul, who writes this letter, talked about the sincere faith that they had and in turn passed on to Timothy.

As someone who is very soon to become a Mother I often spend time thinking of what I might pass on to my child. Will they be blonde like me? Will they be a big baby like I was? Will they share my love of music? Will I pass on more of my good traits or my faults?

Paul says to Timothy ‘I remind you to rekindle the gift of God that is within you.’ A gift of grace, love, forgiveness and so much more, that is given to each and every one of us.

I hope to be able to share that gift as a mother. But our role as Christians in sharing that gift doesn’t just mean to our immediate family.

Like many women in the bible, and of course like God our Mother who protects us under wings like a mother hen, we can nurture and mother too. Whether its to our children and young people here at Grangewood, or to those who have lost their mothers, those who don’t have a good relationship with their mothers, to those who didn’t have the chance to be mothers, or those who didn’t and felt like they didn’t get it right.

We can share God’s gift of mothering love to all who search for it and those who don’t even need it.

So happy Mothers Day. May you experience God’s mothering love and share it with all you can.
