The closure of Willersley Castle
I (Martin Sykes) received the below very sad email from Gareth @ Willersley Castle on 22nd June 2020 which I share with you at the end of this article.
Since our Church Family Weekend @ Willersley next year is clearly not going to happen, I have been looking for an alternative venue for us.
The good news is that The Hayes Conference Centre, Swanwick which is just 18 miles (23 minutes) from Wollaton (on the way to Cromford) has all the facilities we need and is available from Friday 19th – Sunday 21st March 2021.
The all-inclusive cost for a weekend @ Swanwick is £150 per person with three meals a day included.
All bedrooms are en-suite be they single, double or family rooms. Children still go free.
The Hayes Conference Centre sits in 150 acres of its own grounds, complete with a Lake and caters for all ages. There are boundless facilities and the Derbyshire Peak District is on the doorstep. Cromford and Crich (The Tramway Village) is just 8 miles up the road and the Alfreton Leisure Centre is 5 minutes’ drive away.
We will have use of a large room and a smaller room exclusively for our use for the weekend (actual rooms to be agreed when we make a site visit in August) and there is a beautiful lounge for our use.
The plan is to have the same format of Church Family Weekend as we've had before but in a different venue which will offer many different opportunities.
We will be receiving a full refund from Willersley before too long.
I have made a provisional booking from 5pm on Friday 19th - 5pm Sunday 21st March 2021.
Those of you who have booked and paid for Willersley have two options open to you.
1. Take the refund when it arrives. Please let me or Valerie know who to make the cheque payable to - Grangewood does not have an online banking option.
2. Decide to join us @ The Hayes next March remembering that the cost is £18 less per head.

Subject: Willersley Castle Hotel closure
Good Morning
Sadly, Willersley Castle Hotel has now permanently closed its doors and your booking with us later this year and next has now been cancelled. Due to our contract with you for your booking being due to circumstances outside of our control, we will of course respect the return of your monies. We will only be able to transfer monies directly into your bank account and we will be in contact with you in the upcoming weeks for these details. We are dealing with these refunds in arrival date order. Please bear with us whilst we process all these refunds.
