The
Grangewood Puppets were the result of a day Lynn Barson, an
Australian living in Nottingham, spent at a Sunday School teachers'
training course in 1997. (Lynn has since returned with her family to
Australia.) After this a puppet, Camille the camel was purchased and
the work began. Lynn obtained a pattern for a puppet and utilised the
highly advanced tailoring talents of Alison Whitlock to produce a large
number of puppets of various shapes and appearances. An original puppet
perch (staging) was manufactured from plastic waste pipe, this being
superseded with a steel tripod system.
The puppet team, of which there are 7 regular members, participate in
Grangewood services. We have been invited to other churches and
occasions such as a workshop for a World Conference of Women at
Loughborough, the York District Women's Network Celebrations and at
Synod, again a workshop.
The main performances take place at Christmas when we visit 5 or 6
schools in the area to tell an enhanced Christmas story to over 1000
primary school children.
We do not meet on a regular basis; meeting together just prior to a
presentation.
